President Barack Obama has nominated veteran appeals court judge Merrick Garland to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice. The president praised Garland’s legal credentials and cited his nearly 20 years of experience on the bench as chief judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. The 63-year-old Garland began his career as a clerk for Supreme Court Justice William Brennan. As a federal prosecutor, he oversaw the investigation and prosecutions in the Oklahoma City bombing case as well as the terror case against Unabomber Ted Kaczynski.
