Annie Lennox performs a soulful and rich rendition of the American Songbook classic “Summertime,” which George Gershwin composed for his opera Porgy and Bess (1935). The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward (author of the novel Porgy, on which the opera was based) and Ira Gershwin. Billie Holiday recorded the song in 1936 and it quickly became a frequently covered jazz standard.
