The century-long Roosevelt legacy begins with the birth of Theodore Roosevelt on October 27th, 1858. The trajectory of his life, from a sickly, asthmatic childhood to his vibrant presidency, is defined in its early years by academic achievement, political success and a blissful marriage. But on February 14, 1884, the tragic deaths of his mother and his wife on the same day leave TR shattered, and only by escaping to the Badlands of North Dakota does he find a refuge and the chance to re-build his body and spirit.
