WASHINGTON WEEK

President Trump is expected to decertify the Iran nuclear deal on Friday despite assessments from several cabinet officials that Iran is complying with the 2015 agreement. The decision would send the deal to Congress which could re-impose economic sanctions and effectively kill the deal that limits the development of Iran’s nuclear ambitions.  Mr. Trump’s attempt to get out of the “worst deal” would have a far-reaching impact on how the United States is viewed on the world stage and comes the same week the president publicly challenged his own secretary of state.

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are Shirley Caesar, Ahmad Jamal, Charley Pride, Jimmie Rodgers, Nina Simone, Sly Stone, and the Velvet Underground.

Most people assume they need to head to more remote areas, like state and national parks, to see a Red fox, but according to several experts, many individuals need to look no further than their own neighborhoods. These adaptable and intelligent canids can make their home along the cliffs of Newfoundland and the Arctic tundra. Over the last century, they have also been slowly populating urban centers. According to Wildlife Specialist Dr. David Drake of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, “There’s not a lot of urban Red fox research going on in North America…But I would be very, very surprised if there are not Red fox in most, if not, all North American cities.”

The longtime hunting practices of the Faroese are threatened by dangerously high mercury levels in whales, decimated seabird populations and anti-whaling activists. Day explores the undeniably timely tensions between the environment, health, tradition and culture.
