BONES OF THE BUDDHA

The mystery surrounding the bones of the Buddha dates back more than 100 years ago, when colonial estate manager William (Willie) Peppe and his workers began digging at a mysterious hill in Northern India. Peppe had no idea what they’d find just a little more than 20 feet down.  They unearthed an astonishing discovery: a huge stone coffer, containing five reliquary jars, more than 1,000 separate jewels – carved semi-precious stones and gold and silver objects – and some ash and bone. One of the jars bore a Sanskrit inscription which, when translated, stated the jar contained the remains of the Buddha himself.

Pierre Thomas of ABC News will report on the aftermath of the Zimmerman not-guilty verdict.

t the White House today, President Obama forged ahead in promoting parts of his signature health care legislation set to go into effect this October.  At the same time congressional Republicans continued their push to repeal the law or at least delay or dismantle it.  What’s going on?  David Wessel of The Wall Street Journal will explain why the debate over the Affordable Care Act has continued a year after becoming law.

Each year between April and October, the Shaw Festival presents 10–12 plays on four stages that attract patrons from all over the world. Located in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada–the Shaw’s extended and one-of-a-kind schedule has actors and directors working on several plays at once. Over eight months, crews design and build sets on a finely honed schedule that is both frenetic, creative and amazingly well planned and executed.
