A terrified patient faces court martial. There’s little anyone can do, and yet, his presence unnerves the staff and patients, a constant reminder of the perils of overstepping the rules. This warning is particularly pertinent for some, as a proud Irish non-commissioned officer faces rebellion from his young protégé.

Annie Lennox performs a soulful and rich rendition of the American Songbook classic “Summertime,” which George Gershwin composed for his opera Porgy and Bess (1935). The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward (author of the novel Porgy, on which the opera was based) and Ira Gershwin. Billie Holiday recorded the song in 1936 and it quickly became a frequently covered jazz standard.

Until now, the public and scholars have focused on the British Mandate as the matchstick of the Middle East conflict. Breaking new ground, this film focuses on the moment just before World War I, when Arab and Jewish nationalism first made contact, and the seeds of conflict were first sewn.
