TROOP 1500

THURSDAY, DECEMBER 8 @ 8:00PM & 11:00PM

At Hilltop Prison in Gatesville, Texas, a unique Girl Scout troop, Troop 1500, unites daughters with mothers who are serving time for serious crimes, giving them a chance to rebuild their broken bonds. Facing long sentences from the courts, the mothers struggle to mend their fractured relationships with their daughters.

TROOP 1500 follows five young Girl Scouts—sisters Caitlin and Mikaela, Jasmine, Jessica and Naomi—whose mothers are serving time. Once inside the prison bars, the girls of Troop 1500 fall into the arms of the mothers they seldom see— Kenya, Melissa, Ida and Susan—crying and laughing while pulling out report cards and pictures and passing along hellos from grandparents and absent brothers. At the conclusion of each monthly meeting in the prison library, the girls and moms form a circle and recite the Girl Scout Promise in unison: “On my honor, I will try to serve God and my country, to help people at all times, and to live by the Girl Scout law.”

FLYING CHEAP

THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 @ 7:00PM & 10:00PM

Last February, Continental Flight 3407 crashed outside of Buffalo, N.Y., killing 49 people onboard and one on the ground. Although 3407 was painted in the colors of Continental Connection, it was actually operated by Colgan Air, a regional airline that flies routes under contract for US Airways, United and Continental. The crash and subsequent investigation revealed a little-known trend in the airline industry: Major airlines have outsourced more and more of their flights to obscure regional carriers.

Today, with regional airlines accounting for more than half of all scheduled domestic flights in the United States and responsible for the last six fatal commercial airline accidents, FRONTLINE producer Rick Young and correspondent Miles O’Brien investigate the safety issues associated with outsourcing in Flying Cheap.

THE CRUSADER

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20 @ 6:00PM & 10:00PM

The Crusader delves into the increasingly grey area between right and wrong as television heroes confront internal demons while seeking their own forms of justice.

I think we are in a, indeed in a golden age television. I think TV today, pound for pound, storytelling-wise is more interesting, dare I say it than Hollywood movies. And I think it’s because television is first and foremost about storytelling. When you create a TV show, what you hope is that by virtue of the writing, by virtue of the actors you have cast, or the situations the characters find themselves in are so interesting or so dramatic and perilous, that you want to keep coming back for more.” – VINCE GILLIGAN, Producer, Breaking Bad

WOMEN WHO ROCK

What does it mean to rock? It may seem obvious that everyone knows what rock and roll is.
