Ducks are ancient creatures. True originals, ducks practice habitual lifestyles that have been essential to their evolutionary success for millions of years. There are more than 120 different species of ducks—many with delightful names like “Buffleheads,” “Shovelers,” and “Woodies” that embody their charming personalities and curious mannerisms. Despite the glorious display of their iridescent feathers, these webbed-footed waterfowl maintain a reputation for being clumsy and awkward. But in reality they are surprisingly athletic birds; some have been clocked flying almost 100 mph, allowing them to outpace eagles and hawks.

Downstairs, a member of the staff mysteriously disappears while others are called up for service in the war. No one knows what the days and months ahead will bring, but change is inevitable. And, once again, a beloved voice from the past offers direction for the dire days.

As the final march towards war seems inevitable, Sir Hallam desperately tries to sort out his own situation, and restore order to the household. But it becomes painfully clear that the clock can’t be turned back, and that the time has arrived for the household’s greatest test.

On Nov. 11, “National Salute to Veterans” will bring the nation together to say thank you to America’s veterans, to salute their service, honor their sacrifice, and promise that their dedication to our country will never be forgotten.

Hosted by acclaimed actors Joe Mantegna (“Criminal Minds”) and Gary Sinise (“CSI: New York”), this national television event will pay tribute to all veterans—those fresh from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars; those still among us from WWII, Korea and Vietnam; and all those who died for our freedom throughout America’s history—and acknowledge their families, who have sacrificed along with them.
